IN PRAISE OF POCKETS

I never knew how much I needed you until I didn’t have you, or not enough of you, or not the right ones. At the start of every round, I have to practically dump the contents of my golf bag into the compartments of my cart and shove countless tees in my hair (that somehow get lost in my ponytail without fail); things are scattered everywhere. If only a repository for small things existed for all my little knickknacks to have a special home.

You would think that something as simple as a pocket would be an easy addition to any article of clothing, and yet no pair of pants, shorts or skort has ever had sufficient space for my many miscellaneous-yet-essential belongings. I’m not saying that cargoes are the answer. In fact, they are the furthest thing I’m longing for. It’s a story as old as time. Too much or never enough, the middle ground remains in limbo. Here’s to good, deep enough, sensible pockets, and may we never ever take them for granted.
