Sankashti Chaturthi is a sacred fast dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Hindus commemorate Sankashti Chaturthi on the fourth day, or Chaturthi, of the waning moon, or Krishna Paksha. The meaning of the phrase Sankashti is "deliverance from difficulties," and it is believed that Lord Ganesha removes all barriers and problems. This fast will be called Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi as it falls on the Chaturthi Tithi of Vaishakh Maas Krishna Paksha.

Every year, on the Chaturthi day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Vaishakh, people celebrate Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi. Devotees worship Lord Ganesha. In order to receive the blessings of Lord Ganesha and succeed in all of their auspicious endeavours, devotees additionally observe a fast on this day. It is believed that by keeping this fast, auspiciousness enters a person's life, relieving them of all financial difficulties and boosting their financial well-being.  In this case, Lord Ganesha is ritualistically worshipped on the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha each month.

Sankashti Chaturthi April 2024: Rituals Associated With Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat 

- From dawn till moonrise, devotees follow a rigorous fast, which they break only upon seeing the moon. The fast is a representation of self-control and devotion, showing the devotee's resolve to seek Lord Ganesha's blessings.

- The image of Lord Ganesha, is decked up with durva grass and scarlet flowers. His favourite dessert, modak, is served by devotees along with other traditional fare. To call upon the blessings of the God, special prayers and hymns are chanted.

- When the moon is seen, usually after sunset, the fast comes to an end. Prasad is consumed by devotees to break their fast, and it often consists of fruits, nuts, and the modak that was previously served. It is believed that the moon is a source of good energy, therefore seeing it on this day is especially fortunate.
