WHY MARGOT ROBBIE SKIPPED THE MET GALA THIS YEAR

After a year’s worth of red carpet appearances for Barbie’s theatrical premiere and awards season run, Margot Robbie took a break on Met Gala night. The actress, who has been shooting A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in Los Angeles, chose not to fly across the country to attend fashion’s big night in New York City.

Robbie did go to the Met Gala last year, wearing a black Chanel dress with a see-through corset for the gala’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme. She wore her hair down and kept her makeup more muted.

While Robbie has been filming A Big Bold Beautiful Journey this spring, the actress spoke to Deadline in January about her pause from acting prior to the project. “Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break,’” she said with a laugh. Robbie co-founded production company LuckyChap with Ackerley, and Josey McNamara.

The producing is 24/7, but on the acting side, this is the longest I haven’t acted on a set, because we finished Barbie in October of 2022,” she added. “So, it’s already been more than a year since I was on set as an actor, and other than COVID, that’s the first time that’s ever happened.”

Robbie also joked that the public may have Barbie fatigue: “I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while. Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again? We just did a whole summer with her. We’re over it.’ I don’t know what I’ll do next, but I hope it’s a little while away.”
