Turmeric can stain countertops if it is not cleaned up quickly. Turmeric is a yellow spice that is commonly used in Indian cuisine. It can also be used as a natural dye. If turmeric does stain your countertop, you can try cleaning it with a paste made of baking soda and water. You can also try using a commercial stain remover. Be sure to test any cleaner in an inconspicuous area first to ensure that it won't damage the finish on your countertop.

The pigment of turmeric comes from curcumin, a biologically active polyphenolic compound. Due to its pigment content, curcumin will stain counter tops as well as fabrics and non-glass and non-treated plate ware. In most cases, turmeric stains on countertops can be removed with a baking soda and water paste. Since curcumin dissolves in alcohol, methanol containing products may help break down the pigment.
