Onion is an allium vegetable, all of which are gas forming. By cooking and chopping the onions you will reduce some of the gas formation it causes but this will not go away completely.
Onions contain carbohydrates that are fermented by gut bacteria and produce gas in this portion of the digestive tract. The same is true of beans and other foods known as starchy foods.
Onions contain fructose, which during digestion, breakdowns into the sugar causing gas. This happens specially with raw anions. If you have any digestion issue, avoid onions or take them cooked.
