Interestingly, on this day, sisters also fast for their brothers' good health and longevity, known as "Bandara", similar to the Raksha Bandhan tradition in North India. In return, brothers shower their sisters with gifts and blessings, promising to protect and care for them. This day strengthens the bond between siblings and reinforces the values of love, care, and protection within families.

During the Bheemana Amavasya pooja, the person performing the ritual creates Kalikamba lamps, which are simple, elongated mud lamps symbolising Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
