Eric Lefkofsky: Innovating Medical Data Technology

Eric Lefkofsky is an individual who is involved in a lot of industries. Eric is well known for providing data and logistics technology to different kinds of industries and he provides a technology that declutters and organizes data for the company or industry to be used for whatever purpose that the company may deem it useful for. Eric then noticed the lack of an effective underlying data infrastructure for the medical field, and it was alarming because the healthcare industry involves a lot of procedures and treatments that are full of data that have potential to be useful for other healthcare professionals as well. Eric decided that there should be a data infrastracture that will collate all clinical notes, patient’s information, drugs and procedures, organize it, and the date should be made available for review by other doctors as well. This data can be utilized for further research, understanding and better planning for the patients. This alarming event is the reason behind Eric Lefkofsky’s creating of Tempus – a health care data-driven technology.
Tempus is a system that utilizes basic artificial intelligence in order to organize the input date and build a sequence from it, analyze patterns and make correlations. Tempus takes into consideration different factors like: the patient’s history, data, the drugs that are being taken, the response to the drugs, clinical notes, the procedures being undertaken, and other essential and critical information that may affect the patient’s health and well-being. Tempus analyzes all this data to create the sequence that doctors can use in order to build better strategies, understand the patient better and execute a medical plan of action to provide the best care for the patient. The data and the sequence produced by Tempus can also be utilized by other doctors when they encounter medical cases that are similar to the data that Tempus has gathered – with this utilization of technology, they can hasten the analysis, cut the research time, and provide care for the patient quicker and better. Tempus is a technology that helps doctors and patients alike and is it a tool that improves the medical procedure greatly.

Dr. Eric Forsthoefel; an ER Doctor Who Cares

Dr. Eric Forsthoefel works in emergency medicine, specifically as an ER (emergency room) doctor.  He attended medical school from 2009 to 2012. He completed his residency in emergency medicine in 2012.

He has been certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in emergency medicine. He has experience in the emergency room setting for over six years. He has been trained in a variety of medical jobs such as trauma, injuries, fractures and cuts, cardiac distress, and acute illnesses, as well as others. He is skilled in and prepared to quickly assess and treat all emergency room issues.  He has received many certifications and is authorized by several medical boards that indicate he has a strong knowledge of multiple medical conditions.

Recently, Dr. Forsthoefel was asked to give his opinion about one of the largest issues in our country’s health care system today; the high use of the emergency room for non-urgent care. He admits this has become a problem in the hospital he works in, which has seen hundreds of non-urgent care patients.

Dr. Forsthoefel feels many people will choose to the come to the ER over making an appointment and seeing a primary care doctor is due to the lack of access to basic primary care medicine, along with high copays. Other issues are long wait times, which can add up to days in order to see a primary care doctor, as well as even higher out of pocket costs if the patient is referred to a specialist.

Even though a patient’s visit to the ER might not be an emergency, Dr. Forsthoefel still makes it a priority to provide a high level of care. However, the increasing amount of non-urgent patients makes it harder to give prompt care to the patients that truly need it. Also, sometimes the level of the care a patient needs isn’t always discernable right up front.

Regardless of this issue, Dr. Forsthoefel and his staff do their best provide the highest level of care to all patients. He does admit that because their time and resources are being used in both urgent and non-urgent care, emergency departments visits are becoming less effective, even critical.

In some states, certain insurance companies have actively stopped paying for non-urgent care in emergency rooms, and more and more states are starting to follow this trend. Their reasoning is to save increase profits and save money. Already, there have been cases where an insurance company refused to cover care, even when a dangerous medical problem could have arisen without care. There are multiple symptoms a patient can have that could either turn out to be “nothing” or become a life-threatening issue.

Dr. Forsthoefel is aware that if a patient needs to pay for care out of pocket, they might choose not to come in for care at all, even if it meant that they could die, so he would prefer to provide care for everyone who comes through their doors, regardless of their reason.  Don’t avoid going to the emergency room if you suspect you might any type of medical emergency.

Avi Weisfogel Sees Larger Universe for Applications of Dentistry

Avi Weisfogel has become one of the most famous dentists in Central New Jersey. After founding his first dental practice, Old Bridge Dental, he quickly grew it in to one of the largest and most prominent practices around. But he was always interested and how to continue adding more value to the patient experience. Over the course of a decade, Dr. Avi Weisfogel slowly had an epiphany that dentists could be used as a frontline vanguard in the fight against different forms of disease, especially disease treatments that were not traditionally associated with dentist.

Dr. Weisfogel set out researching different conditions that had poor rates of diagnosis and treatment. His operating assumption was that dentists were in a position that was unique among medical professionals to diagnose and potentially treat conditions of the head neck and mouth area. Some of these, such as cancers and other diseases, were, by far, most effectively treated in the earliest stages and learn more about Avi Weisfogel.

One of Dr. Weisfogels key insights was to notice that many patients who essentially never saw their physicians were very eager to see their dentist. This is due to the nature of dental disease. Most dental diseases, Dr. Weisfogel understood, fall into two categories. The first are those diseases that cause excruciating pain. Examples of this include molar abscesses and cavities. These conditions are often so painful that even analgesic drugs are simply not capable of even beginning to ease their pain. They often require immediate intervention, including the extraction of teeth and draining of abscesses and contact him.

The other type of disease, for which patients often go to see their dentist, are those that cause obvious cosmetic defects. Examples of this sort of condition are chipped front teeth and crowns that have become dislodged or have fallen out of the mouth entirely. Again, these diseases are simply impossible to ignore, leading the patient to see their dentists immediately upon the onset of the condition and Avi on Facebook.

To Dr. Weisfogel, this meant dentists are in a position to diagnose other diseases, even where general physicians are unable to, due to the fact that they simply do not see their patient. This formed the basis for Dental Sleep Masters.
